Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.

Last week, the Planning & Zoning Commission hosted an informational meeting to discuss options for cannabis regulations for the Town of Colebrook. If you weren’t able to make it, you can learn more here and here.

This week, the Colebrook Fire Department and the Department of Public Works collaborated to put our recently retired Engine Number 2 to good use in helping clear out clogged culverts in town. Engine Number 2 is eventually slated to be sold, but until then is helping us save on equipment rental for drainage maintenance this fall.

Earlier today, more than 80 Colebrook Consolidated School students, staff and parents participated in National Walk to School Day. The route began at the Town Rec area on Cooper Lane and continued on Smith Hill Road to the school. Thanks to the Fire Department for bringing their emergency vehicles and closing the upper portion of Smith Hill Road for the duration of the walk.

Next Tuesday, October 8th, Dana and Adam Towers will buy breakfast at the Community & Senior Center for all who bring in at least one new clothing item to support the Wounded Heroes Program of Maine. Dana is Co-Director of our Community & Senior Center and hails from Maine. You can learn more about the types of new clothing needed here. Breakfast runs from 8-9:15 a.m.

Saturday, October 19th, is household hazardous waste collection day at the Torrington Water Pollution Control Facility at 252 Lower Bogue Road in Harwinton. Early voting for the upcoming election will run from Monday, October 21st, through November 3rd,10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily—except for Tuesday, October 29th, and Thursday, October 31st, when early voting hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voting will take place in the upstairs meeting room in Town Hall.

Our annual Town Meeting will be held on Monday, October 21st, at 8 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room at Town Hall. At that time, we’ll vote on candidates for member and alternate positions on the: Planning & Zoning Commission; Zoning Board of Appeals; Recreation Board; and Historic District Commission.

Flu vaccine shots will be available at the Community & Senior Center from 9-11 a.m. on Thursday, October 24th. Please bring your medical insurance card. Learn more here.

The Community & Senior Center is hosting an indoor tag sale on Saturday, October 19th, from 8 am-1 p.m. To reserve a table for $20, call 860.738.9521, or contact seniordirector@colebrooktownhall.org. Colebrook Consolidated School (CCS) is hosting a Textile Drive during October. The CCS Class of 2028 will receive a donation for every pound collected. Proceeds benefit their 6th grade class trip to Nature’s Classroom. Learn more here.

Upcoming community events

This Saturday, October 5th, the Colebrook Consolidated School fifth grade class will host its annual Pumpkin & Mum Sale from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the school parking lot. Proceeds benefit the CCS 2026 class trip. Learn more here.
Also on Saturday, the Colebrook Associates will present their annual Oktoberfest from 4-6 p.m. at Colebrook Town Hall, in the upstairs meeting room. Tickets are $30 and can be reserved by calling 860.469.2208, or by emailing colebrookassociates@gmail.com. Learn more here.

On Friday, October 18th, at 7 p.m., the Colebrook Historical Society presents, “The Civilian Conservation Corps – Its History and Work in Connecticut,” as part of its Friday Night Gathering series. The guest speaker will be Marty Podskoch, a retired teacher and the author of 11 books. The evening will begin (and conclude) with refreshments at the Seymour Inn, with the presentation taking place in the upstairs meeting room at Town Hall at approximately 7:30 p.m. Learn more here.
