Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.
Town Hall will be closed on Monday, October 14th, for Columbus Day. Trash pickup will stay on a regular schedule next week.
At a special Board of Selectmen meeting last week, we voted to engage Zygmont Excavation for the drainage project in front of the post office. Work is expected to begin later this month, weather permitting.
Saturday, October 19th, is household hazardous waste collection day at the Torrington Water Pollution Control Facility at 252 Lower Bogue Road in Harwinton. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. You must have a ticket to participate. Early voting for the upcoming election will run from Monday, October 21st, through November 3rd,10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily-except for Tuesday, October 29th, and Thursday, October 31st, when early voting hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voting will take place in the upstairs meeting room in Town Hall.
Our annual Town Meeting will be held on Monday, October 21st, at 8 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room at Town Hall. We’ll vote on candidates for member and alternate positions on the: Planning & Zoning Commission; Zoning Board of Appeals; Recreation Board; and Historic District Commission.

Colebrook Consolidated School (CCS) is hosting a Textile Drive during October. The CCS Class of 2028 will receive a donation for every pound collected. This year marks the 75th Anniversary of Colebrook Consolidated School. The school community will be celebrating the occasion on Friday, November 8th, from 1:30-2:30pm. Community members are cordially invited to join student and staff alumni for the festivities. Details to follow.
The Helene North Carolina Hurricane Relief Fund is accepting donations for food, water, toiletries and relief supplies. Donations will be shipped to North Carolina on Wednesday, October 16th. Dropoff locations are Barkhamsted Town Hall and New Hope Baptist Church (371 Pinewoods Road in Torrington). Learn more at the Barkhamsted Town Chatter Facebook group.
Upcoming community events
On Friday, October 18th, at 7 p.m., the Colebrook Historical Society presents, “The Civilian Conservation Corps – Its History and Work in Connecticut,” as part of its Friday Night Gathering series. The guest speaker will be Marty Podskoch, a retired teacher and the author of 11 books. Camp Jewell will host its Halloween Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 26th, from 5-7:30 p.m. The event at the Camp will include trick or treating, a haunted house, and a pasta dinner. Dinner is $5 per person with optional donations to fund scholarships for day camp students in 2025. No RSVP required.
Save the date for a special concert to be hosted by the Colebrook Historical Society on Sunday, November 17th, at 3 p.m. at the Colebrook Congregational Church. World renowned violinist Stephanie Chase will perform “Inspired by Bach,” a recital honoring the 300th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Six Sonatas and Partitas for violin solo, and other works. Admission is free.
