News from Colebrook Town Hall

Greetings from Colebrook Town Hall.

In last week’s newsletter, I outlined the process that had taken place last fall when the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) issued a permit to modify the intersection of Route 183 and Prock Hill Road—with the intent to slow traffic exiting 183 onto Prock Hill Road, and to make the intersection safer.

Earlier this week, the DOT and contractor met at the site to review final plans and to revise them slightly, widening the 62-foot approach on Prock Hill Road by 2 feet. Weather permitting, the project will break ground on Monday, July 8th. That evening, the contractor will provide an update at the July Board of Selectmen meeting. The public is invited to attend and ask questions.

On Monday, repaving begins on Old Forge and Robertsville Roads. Traffic will be confined to one lane. Eno Hill and the Forge Firehouse parking lot will follow, and conclude with Pine Road. We’ll provide weekly updates.

Today is Town Treasurer Amy Gardner’s last day. We thank her for 12 years of dedicated service. Amy and her successor, Melanie Knap, have been working together this week to ensure a smooth transition.

Dog license renewals are due by June 30th, and are available online on the town website here.

June 30th is the deadline to submit entries for the Colebrook Conservation Commission’s nature photo contest. Submit entries to colebrookphotocontest@gmail.com.

Local taxes are due July 1st—and are considered late if not paid by August 1st. If you don’t receive a motor vehicle bill over the course of the next week—or receive an invoice from the wrong town—please contact the Colebrook Town Assessor at 860.379.3359, ext. 206, or assessor@colebrooktownhall.org.

Town Hall and the Community & Senior Center will be closed on Thursday, July 4th, for Independence Day. Curbside trash and recycling pickup will be pushed back one day that week.

On Tuesday, July 9th, from 8-9:30 a.m., the Colebrook Associates will be offering a technology support session at the Colebrook Community & Senior Center. Bring your cell phone, laptop, tablet—and your questions

The Town Pond is open for swimming. Weather permitting, lifeguards will be on duty Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and Sundays (noon to 6 p.m).

For many years, the flower boxes in front of our Post Office have been maintained by a team of dedicated volunteers, led by Judy Kochey. If you’d like to help out, please contact Karen at kodell@colebrooktownhall.org.

USA Recycling, the company that handles curbside pickup for us, has a new online resource to educate the public about recycling and waste reduction. Their new Learning Center contains videos and downloadable resources and can be found here.

Upcoming Town events:

On Sunday, June 30th, at 11 a.m., the Town Recreation Board and the Colebrook Lions Club will be hosting their annual youth baseball awards picnic at the Town Pond.

On Thursday, July 4th, the Colebrook Associates are sponsoring a Spoken & Musical Program in celebration of Independence Day. Festivities begin at 10:45 a.m. with the Bike Parade, starting from Colebrook School (line up at 10:30 a.m. to participate). The main program, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Colebrook Congregational Church, will include an Armed Forces medley, a patriotic sing-a-long, stories from Colebrook’s past, and “Coming to Colebrook,” a video showcasing some of our Town residents, and their thoughts about our beautiful town.
